Sticks n'Stones Elf Wreath: Bamboo, Polymer Clay, Amaranthus Foliage, Moss, Copper

A play on the expression, "Sticks and stones may....". I thought to transform it into a 'good friends having a good laugh' wreath. How merry everyone is! All comes to life even the stones and pebbles. Elfy and his companion Caterpillar are paying a visit to sticks and stones. As you can see from their smiling and laughing, they are having a wonderful time together....as good friends do.

About The Wreath:
The bamboo wreath is sprinkled with a beautiful blush pink bunch of Amaranthus foliage with accents of green from its leaves draping along the side of the wreath. On the opposite side are branches which are covered at the base with a bright and cheery green colored moss. If you peek closer at the image, you will note that the larger rock upon which sits a tiny boy elf also has his companion a tiny caterpillar who also has a smile as he laughs along with the others.

The pebbles have smiling faces with some looking at the larger stone and the others looking at the sticks. The sticks are two long time friends who've kept an eye out on all of the happenings in their forest for many years and they have some funny stories to share about it all.

The wreath construction consists of a deep green satin like ribbon which is adhered to the bamboo with wrapped copper for added stability and securing. This wreath is the tiniest out of my wreath collection. On the back, you will find a copper strip with my name and wreath number for those who collect wreaths.

The Making Of:
I began this project with a sense of whimsy in mind and so I began to sketch out the characters and their placement. I wanted to convey the feeling of closeness, friendship, and light-heartedness. I thought it would be great to have a tiny elf and his caterpillar meet with friends for a chat. Making the seemingly inanimate animated, I created stones that smile and have eyes. I then gathered all of my materials and began to knead and shape Elfy the boy elf. Next I worked on the sticks, and then the stones adding character to each. I pay close attention to the balance of the overall work to make it pleasing, showcasing the characters as though we were peeking in on their world without notice.
